What is Abhyas?
Abhyas is an endeavour to provide a nurturing and learning space for autism and special need children. This is inspired from real experience of having a special need child in family. Children enrolled in Abhyas receives three hours of training helping them in speech & talking, reading & writing, develop understanding, building attention & concentration, interaction & communication.
Who is a special need child?
A child who has learning problem or disability that make it more difficult for them to learn than most children their age. They may have problems with speech, communication, interaction, or behaviour.
What is a autism spectrum disorder?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how children communicate, socialise and interact with others. It is a “developmental disorder” and symptoms generally appear in the first two years of life.
Children with autism has difficulty with social interaction and communication. They have limited interests and engage in repetitive behaviour.They may have difficulty regulating their senses and show hyper or hypo reaction to sensory signal.
What do we do?
We provide speech and language therapy to help children build foundation for talking. Speech therapy is provided by rich and appropriate therapy material. A lot of interaction and play method is used to make the therapy as natural as possible.
We work on all children’s reading and writing. Although this can be part of school curriculum however, we feel when child is with us, we should help them in their literacy skills as well.
Basic understanding of our environment and background keeps the child safe.
We work on children’s understanding of what is safe and unsafe for them.
We help children how to communicate. We help them understand How we let someone know what we think, want, and how we understand what other people think.
Attention and concentration are important for children’s learning, development and mental health. Children need to attend to and concentrate on things in order to understand and remember them. We help children build their attention & concentration by focused activities.
Why Abhyas?
Children early years are very important time for their physical, emotional, intellectual and social development. Autism and special need children miss out on their overall development and they struggle to cope with mainstream children in nurseries, play groups or school.
Children learn in different ways and can have different level of need. Abhyas uses individual management approach for each child in a special setting which is designed to cater autism and special need children needs.
